Gellner Pearls

Gellner pearls are created through direct relationships with some of the most influential figures in modern pearl culture and through a personal selection process directly at the pearl farms. While most pearls are initially shipped to Japan, Gellner pearls go directly to their own manufactory – a method that allows for an exceptional connection to their origin.

By purchasing directly from the farm, the origin of every Gellner pearl can be traced without gaps – a transparency that Gellner understands as a "Chain of Custody" and consistently upholds. In their own pearl workshop, a specialized team sorts, selects, and composes the pearls into necklaces, pairs, or individual pieces.

This combination of origin, selection and craftsmanship makes Gellner pearls a unique category within the world of pearls.

Marutea

Marutea Private Culture pearls are produced on the remote atoll of Marutea Sud in French Polynesia. Robert Wan describes this place as one of the most pristine atolls in the Pacific – characterized by clear currents, great biodiversity, and exceptionally calm conditions.

This unique environment fosters the growth of exceptional pearls with a remarkable brilliance. Their characteristic metallic sheen displays a play of colors that appears almost magical, yet arises entirely from nature.

The harvest is strictly limited. Marutea cultured pearls are among the rarest cultured pearls in the world and are available exclusively at Gellner.

Akoya | Nova

Akoya cultured pearls from Japan have been considered the epitome of classic elegance for generations – prized for their delicate roundness and their calm, clear luster. Gellner builds on this tradition with Akoya Nova, consciously interpreting Akoya cultured pearls in a more modern and natural way.

The pearls are exclusively cultivated by George Kakuda in Japan and remain as close as possible to what nature intended. Akoya Nova is selected only in natural white and natural grey; the long cultivation period gives them a fine, naturally metallic luster.

Akoya Nova combines Japanese tradition with Gellner's deliberately natural style.

South Sea

South Sea cultured pearls are among the most impressive cultured pearls in the world – prized for their exceptional size and soft, deep luster. They grow in the pearl oyster Pinctada maxima and, under ideal conditions, reach impressive diameters.

Their origin lies in the remote waters of northern Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, far from dense populations. Particularly prized are flawless whites, delicate shades of silver and rose, and rare golden varieties.

Gellner's South Sea pearls come from select partnerships with leading pearl farms such as Atlas, Sukendi, Paspaley, and Jewelmer. At Gellner, South Sea pearls display their most serene form of size and timeless presence.

Ming

Ming cultured pearls are among the most expressive modern freshwater cultured pearls, captivating with their exceptionally wide range of colors and a large size spectrum – from delicate 2 mm to impressive 18 mm in diameter. Each pearl displays its own unique character, lending the collection a vibrant diversity.

Particularly rare hues, such as deep purple, develop an intense metallic luster, giving them a captivating depth and presence. At Gellner, Ming pearls are carefully selected for their color, shape, and expression.

Ming cultured pearls from Gellner showcase a powerful, individual side of the pearl world – deliberately different and with an extraordinary presence.

Tahiti

Tahitian cultured pearls from the southern lagoons of French Polynesia impress with their exceptionally dense crystal layers and an extraordinary deep luster. Slower growth conditions in these waters lend them a serene intensity and a distinctive depth.

Gellner sources his Tahitian pearls from long-standing partnerships with Robert Wan and from Rikitea in the Gambier Islands. This origin shapes their complex interplay of colors in dark gray, green, and aubergine tones.

At Gellner, Tahitian pearls display a mysterious tranquility and a distinctive, modern facet of the pearl world.

Fiji

Fiji cultured pearls originate in the clear waters of the South Pacific and are characterized by their vibrant luster and naturally warm color play. Nuances of brown, bronze, and golden-pistachio lend them a serene depth and a special harmony – particularly when combined with rose gold.

Gellner sources Fiji pearls exclusively from the farm of Justin Hunter, a pioneer of modern pearl cultivation in Fiji, whose farm is renowned for sustainable practices and exceptional quality. This close partnership shapes the selection process – each pearl is carefully curated for its color, shape, and character.

At Gellner, Fiji pearls show a warm, independent facet of the pearl world – calm, full of character and deliberately different from the cooler tones of classic Tahitian pearls.
